The two registered ECEs in Harbourview’s Preschool 2 program are Rosie Salonen and Sarah Cardy.
In Preschool 2, we encourage children to develop socially and emotionally in a warm, caring, and home-like environment.
The children have many opportunities to develop their gross and fine motor abilities and build cognitive concepts to get ready for kindergarten.
We plan our activities from careful observations of the children and have activities appropriate to each child’s level of development and interest.
We believe that it is very important for our children to learn from a variety of experiences in and out of the centre. Our group does many field trips around the community to help the children better understand their place in the community and develop an openness to differences in others. These field trips include:
- Local parks
- Monthly trips to Waverley Resource Library to foster love of literacy
- Pet stores
- Play centres
- Children’s theatre
- Fire stations
- Senior’s centres
Your preschooler will learn:
Fine motor skills – dressing skills, pouring and learning to serve themselves at the table, how to hold scissors and properly hold drawing tools which will get them ready for writing.
Social skills – the children learn through play how to share, cooperate, be assertive, and problem solve when conflicts arise.
Language skills – participation in songs, stories, rhymes at circle, and language used to communicate thoughts and ideas during play.
